Adaptability Key to Norris’s Advantage Over Piastri at US GP, Says McLaren
McLaren’s Andrea Stella reveals why Oscar Piastri was asked to let Lando Norris pass during the United States Grand Prix.
At the Circuit of The Americas, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri started the United States Grand Prix from the fourth row, unable to match the pace of Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari in qualifying.
Early in the race, Piastri began losing time, falling behind Norris by around one second within the first seven laps.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella explained that the team’s decision to have Piastri yield to Norris was driven by Norris’s superior adaptability to evolving race conditions.
This strategic move was aimed at maximizing McLaren’s overall race performance.
The incident highlights the importance of driver adaptability and team strategy in tightly contested midfield battles in Formula 1.
